Type
One box that receives and transmits on the HF bands, and often 6 meters, 2 meters and 70 centimeters too. Most modern ones make 100 watts and run on 13.8 volts DC, drawing about 20 to 23 amps on transmit, so budget for a separate supply. Some have an antenna tuner inside, like the IC-7300, FT-450D and TS-590SG. Older sets like the TS-830S and HW-101 use tube finals. Ask for a wattmeter reading into a dummy load on several bands, because powering on proves nothing about the transmitter.
