Type
HF linear amplifiers that take a 100-watt rig up toward the legal limit, which the FCC sets at 1.5 kilowatts PEP. Heath's SB-220 uses two 3-500Z tubes, runs on 120 or 240 volts, and weighs 50 pounds. Drake's L-4B uses two 3-500 tubes with a separate high-voltage supply, which many listings no longer include. Ask about the tubes, check the supply is there, and ask how the seller will pack it. Heath warned that one shipped without proper packing would almost certainly arrive damaged.
