Yaesu introduced the FTDX10 in 2020 as a compact 100 W HF and 6 m radio built on the same lines as its bigger FTDX101 series. It uses Yaesu's hybrid SDR layout. A narrow band SDR receiver with a 9 MHz first IF runs through crystal roofing filters of 500 Hz, 3 kHz and 12 kHz, while a separate direct sampling SDR drives the real-time spectrum scope. Yaesu quotes RMDR of 116 dB or more and third-order IMDR of 109 dB or more at 2 kHz spacing on 20 m. Sherwood Engineering tested one in December 2020 and lists it near the top of its receiver table, well above the IC-7300, and QST reviewed it in June 2021. It has a 5-inch color touch screen, a fast automatic tuner with 100 memories, and push-pull RD70HUP2 MOSFETs in the final.

Power, receive, finals and supply
Transmit power
Yaesu rates it at 5 to 100 W on SSB, CW and FM and 5 to 25 W on AM, on HF and 6 m. Ask for a wattmeter reading into a dummy load on 80 m, 20 m, 10 m and 6 m. The meter can show the final's drain voltage (VDD) and current (ID), which makes a useful photo at full power.
Receiver
It receives 30 kHz to 75 MHz, with SSB sensitivity of 0.16 µV on HF. Ask for a video of the scope and audio on several bands, with the preamp on and off. An owner note on mods.dk covers a dead receive preamp, so check that switching it on brings signals up.
Finals
Yaesu uses push-pull RD70HUP2 MOSFETs on an aluminum heat sink with an 80 mm fan. The tuner won't memorize settings above 3:1 SWR, and HI-SWR lights when the antenna is badly matched. Ask whether it has ever shown HI-SWR and what antenna it ran on.
Power supply
It draws up to 23 A on transmit, and Yaesu's manual asks for a supply that can deliver at least 25 A at 13.8 V DC. It came with a DC power cord and a spare 25 A fuse. There's no AC supply inside.
Dial and display
The 5-inch color touch screen shows Yaesu's 3D spectrum stream display, the scope and the menus. Ask for a photo of it on and a video of the main dial and touch control. Check the firmware version in the menu against Yaesu's latest, posted in February 2024.
Filters and options
The tuner and the three roofing filters are built in. The one internal option is the XF-130CN 300 Hz roofing filter for CW, so ask whether it's fitted. An owner note on mods.dk covers repairing a blown USB port, so ask whether USB control and audio work with a computer.
Should come with it
SSM-75E hand microphone (supplied)
DC power cord and spare 25 A fuse (supplied)
XF-130CN 300 Hz roofing filter (optional)
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing piece should come off the price.
What to check
Owner repair notes on mods.dk cover a dead receive preamp and a blown USB port on the FTDX10. Ask the seller to show the preamp bringing up signals and to confirm the USB port connects to a computer.
01Power out: Ask for a wattmeter reading into a dummy load on 80 m, 20 m, 10 m and 6 m. Each band should reach close to 100 W.
02Receive and preamp: Ask for a video of signals on several bands with the preamp off, then on. Signals should come up when the preamp is switched in.
03Finals: Ask whether it has ever shown HI-SWR and what antenna it ran on. Full power on every band with no warnings is what you want.
04Screen and dial: Ask for a video of the touch screen and main dial in use. The scope should run smoothly and the dial should tune without skipping.
05USB port: Ask whether the seller has used it with a computer over USB. Working CAT control and audio means the port is fine.
06Power supply: Ask which supply the seller used. Yaesu asks for 13.8 V DC at 25 A or more.
07Mic and manual: Look for the SSM-75E hand mic and the DC power cord in the photos. Yaesu posts the manual online.
08Mods: A title saying MARS, CAP or wideband means it's been changed to transmit outside the ham bands, which is only for authorized MARS/CAP stations. Ask what was changed.
09Model and options: Check the label reads FTDX10, not FTDX101, and ask whether the XF-130CN filter is fitted. It's the only internal option.
Bid on schmandall's FTDX10 if you can, a US auction now at $1,219 delivered with no bids, titled as a complete working set with a 250 W amp and an antenna tuner. It will climb, and a new one from gigaparts is $1,700 with free shipping, so stop well short of that unless you want the amp and tuner. There are at least 9 for sale and most ask $1,450 to $1,950 delivered, but most of the rest ship from Japan with $50 to $375 shipping, several from sellers under 98% or with only a box in the photo, and mebb.dr-9's sets add Japanese 100 V accessories with an NTI-200 step-up/down transformer to run them here. Ask any seller for a wattmeter reading into a dummy load on 80 m, 20 m, 10 m and 6 m and a video of the preamp bringing signals up, since a dead preamp is a known fault. Budget for a 13.8 V supply that can deliver 25 A, which is what Yaesu's manual asks for.
