Brand
William J. Halligan founded Hallicrafters in Chicago in late 1932, and the name joins Halli(gan) to (hand)crafters. Its first communications receiver of its own, the SX-9 Super Skyrider, came in late 1935, and by 1938 it was selling in 89 countries. In World War II it built the HT-4 transmitter that served as the BC-610 in the SCR-299 mobile station. Wikipedia calls 1945 to 1963 the boom years, and that covers every set here: the S-38 beginner's receiver with its Raymond Loewy styling, the SX-99 and SX-100, the ham-band SX-101 line, the HT-37 transmitter and the triple-conversion SX-117. Halligan sold the company to Northrop in 1966. Northrop sold the name in 1975 and kept the plant for defense work, which ended Hallicrafters' civilian products.
